美麗的風景線(a beautiful sight to behold)最初是美國國會眾議院議長佩洛西評價香港維園六四燭光晚會中的示威行動所發表的言論[1]，後又在早餐會上批評中國違法一國兩制，讚揚香港的反修例示威遊行是「一道美麗的風景線」(a beautiful sight to behold)[2]，經媒體不斷報導發酵後廣為人知。

佩洛西在一次聽證會中鑑於「中國近日對香港的舉動」，讚揚香港維園六四燭光晚會中的示威行動是「一道美麗的風景線」[1][3] ，後發表聲明，聲援反對修訂送中條例的香港示威者，並稱「美國與香港市民同在」，之後又在基督科學箴言報贊助的早餐會上批評中國違法一國兩制，又用此話讚揚了香港的反修例示威遊行[2][4]。
在喬治·弗洛伊德死亡後，大規模的示威活動在美國爆發。於是中國官方也使用「美麗的風景線」進行了反諷，引起了大量爭議。
佩洛西評價的香港示威
需要注意的是一些媒體故意把佩洛西評價的和平示威活動偷換成了暴力示威，對一些人造成了很大的誤解，導致此話的實際意義已經被改變。
不過中國官方的美麗的風景線所形容的有點不一樣，多指暴力示威和一些美國本土的恐怖行為。

由於部分媒體的宣傳不明，當佩洛西使用此話評價香港事務時就遭到了美國國內的一些人士抵制與批評，這次共青團中央反諷引用此話亦被翻車，有評論認為：「把陣營擺在基本的價值面前，人命便成了冷冰冰的較量。但凡對生命有一丁點的尊重，也不會說出這種話。」可見各國政客們為了互懟不惜幸災樂禍，而夾在中間最慘的則是在騷亂城市下艱難生存的人民。但也有人為共青團中央的微博小編鳴不平，說「共青團中央小編做了什麼讓網友如此悲憤？他把美國對中國香港說的話重複了一遍。」

當出於民族主義對其他國家發生的動亂感到幸災樂禍，就可使用此句進行諷刺。如美國的喬治弗洛伊德之死引發的示威活動，法國的黃背心運動等。
